Following the path of Vishwaguru Basaveshwara, Philosopher, Statesmen and Social Reformer

on 890th Birth Anniversary

Greetings from the International Society for Basava Patha, a community dedicated to the teachings and principles of Basavanna, a 12th-century philosopher and social reformer.

His timeless message of equality, fraternity, and dignity for all continues to inspire and guide us in our pursuit of a just and equitable society.

Ishtalinga

Basavanna rejected gender or social discrimination, superstitions and rituals but introduced Ishtalinga necklace, with an image of the lingam, to every person regardless of their Birth/Caste/Gender, to be a constant reminder of one’s bhakti (devotion) to Shiva.

Philosophy

Basaveshwara and his disciples advocated Ishta Linga philosophy. Their philosophy was based on simple human values, and they rejected numerous rituals and practices deeply rooted within the Vedic religion.

Conclusion

By giving a voice to diverse socio-economic groups and women, Basavanna sowed the seeds of an inclusive society. The 12th-century Sharana movement flourished into the Lingayat faith, followed by over 50 million people today.
